David Gillanders was born in Toronto, Canada in 1968 and studied at the University of Western Ontario, London and McGill University, Montreal. After many years in Montreal and then Chicago, he is currently living and working in Ottawa, Canada.

Gillanders has exhibited his work regularly in Canada and the United States including at the Grand Rapids Art Museum, Grand Rapids, Michigan, the Bedford Gallery, Walnut Creek, California, at the Art Gallery of Northumberland, Cobourg, Ontario, the John B. Aird Gallery, Toronto and in Montreal at the Maison de la culture du Plateau-Mont-Royal, the McClure Gallery, and at Galerie Trois Points.

His work has been reviewed in the Montreal Gazette, Vie des Arts, ArtFocus, Thingsofdesire.ca, Akimbo.biz, among others.

Works by David Gillanders are held in the collections of Loto-Québec and BMO Financial Group, Montreal, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec Art Bank, Quebec City, the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan collection, Toronto, the collection of the Art Gallery of Northumberland, Cobourg and in many private collections.
